I joined the Physics department in 2014 with the aim to fully reform the introductory physics courses for non science majors (ISP209 and 209L). After multiple iterations I am now satisfied with the result. I transformed the course from a simple lecture with a professor talking and 300 students listening into an active learning environment with 300 students, 2 learning assistants and a professor working together in a (non ideal) lecture hall. The main goal is for students to appreciate science (physics in particular) and research as a fundamental part of our society. Students success and teacher ratings have increased progressively since i took over the class. 

Regarding the lab, I moved from an old fashioned worksheet based lab with no digital equipment, to a fully computationally equipped lab where students feel like real scientists. They are presented with real open ended challenges that they can solve in groups. The main goals of the labs are not based on content but on practices. Later on I have incorporated a new module: physics of life. In it students interact with different life systems (frog vivarium, freshwater aquarium, saltwater aquarium, desertic reptiles, tropical reptiles, birds and insects) and get to apply the concepts they learn in class to real life examples (chameleon changing color due to refraction, birds flying due to air friction, etc…).
